Marquez continued his Free Practice 2 form into the qualifying as the defending champion clocked a time of 1:28.364s to clinch yet another pole during the Australian Grand Prix. He will be looking to win the race on Sunday.

Ducati's Andrea Iannone and Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo were 0.316s behind him and will start the race from second and third spot respectively. The trio will lock horns for the front row for Sunday's race at the Phillips Island.

Marquez's Honda teammate Dani Pedros was fourth with a time of 1:28.712s. Valentino Rossi's disappointing qualifying session, where he finished seventh has given his Yamaha teammate a chance to reduce the gap in the race for the championship.
