Murder may have come to the paradise island of Bali after Briton's body discovered Wiki Commons

A British man's dead body has been found tied up inside a bag on the paradise island of Bali.

The news comes after it was initially believed the body was that of an Australian.

But Bali police retracted that claim, saying the deceased man was a Briton who used to live in Australia.

His throat may have been cut, with three wounds found on the neck - including one which severed an artery.

There was also facial bruising and his feet and hands were tied, said local police.

A farmer reportedly discovered the bag containing the man's body in the region of Bali called Badung.

It is believed he was living on the island.

A Foreign Office spokesman told IBTimes UK said: "We were of the death of a British national in Bali, Indonesia on October 21. We stand ready to provide consular assistance."
