Backstreet Boys star Nick carter has been arrested in Florida after allegedly getting into brawl at a bar. TMZ reports that the 35-year-old singer was taken into custody in Key West on Wednesday night (13 January) and charged with misdemeanour battery. Eyewitnesses claim Carter was involved in a scuffle at the Hog's Breath Saloon and was arrested after police arrived on the scene.

A manager for the venue told Access Hollywood he could neither confirm nor deny Carter was there. However, Carter's full name – Nickolas Gene Carter – does appear in the jail's inmate log in Key West. Bail has not yet been set and he remained in custody.

The incident comes weeks after he opened up about his troubled past during a candid interview with Entertainment Tonight. He started drinking in his teens and by the age of 18 he was taking cocaine, ecstasy, and other substances.

"You get a lot of attention," he explained. "There's a lot of 'yes' people out there. Those are the perks, but they're negative perks. They just don't have the purest of intentions. At that time you have money and you have the fame."

He was last in trouble with the police in 2005, when he plead guilty to misdemeanor drunk driving and was ordered to a three-month alcohol treatment program.

Carter is set to star in a zombie horror movie entitled Dead 7, which will see Backstreet Boys team up with rivals 'N Sync. He is also writing the script for the "zombie Western futuristic horror movie". The film has an expected 2016 release.

The project is being produced by The Asylum, the team behind Z Nation, and most notably, the Sharknado series. The film company focuses mainly on low-budget, straight-to-video films.

Carter is expecting his first child with his wife Lauren Kitt who he married in 2014. He recently came second behind Bindi Irwin in the Fall 2015 season of Dancing With The Stars.
