The real reason behind the Charles Saatchi- Nigella Lawson throat grab at Scott's that eventually snowballed into their divorce is out. The couple were apparently arguing over the future of Lawson's daughter, Cosima, friends of the couple have confessed to Vanity Fair.

There have been several accounts as to why Saatchi grabbed Lawson's throat at the restaurant with one being that Lawson was so intoxicated by the effects of drugs that he had to hold her by the throat to make her focus.

Lawson herself gave a different version at the trial of the Grillo's sisters that her husband grabbed her by the throat when she discussed having grandchildren.

"Lawson wanted Cosima, 19, to attend University, while Mr Saatchi did not understand why she would want to study when she was impressing in the workplace and could gain advantage there," sources close to the couple stated.

Her internship at the Economist was also a source of argument.

Saatchi filed for divorce from his wife of 10 years after she failed to defend him in public following the publication of pictures which appeared to show him grabbing her by the throat outside a London restaurant.

"I am sorry to announce that Nigella Lawson and I are getting divorced. This is heartbreaking for both of us as our love was very deep, but in the last year, we have become estranged and drifted apart," Saatchi told The Mail.

"I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way."

Saatchi has been widely criticised over the alleged choking incident. Shortly after the pictures were published, Lawson was pictured with her son Bruno leaving her marital home with a suitcase.

The 70-year-old Saatchi had previously stated that he voluntarily went to a central London police station and accepted a caution for assault, which he called a playful tiff.

Lawson has two children, Cosima, 19, and Bruno, 17, from her previous marriage to the late journalist John Diamond, while Saatchi has a daughter, Phoebe,19, from a previous marriage.
