Overview

Tennis fans could not have asked for a better start to the ATP season with Djokovic taking on Nadal in the final of the 2016 Doha Open. The world number 1 has come through the draw unscathed and made the finals without dropping a single set, while his opponent Nadal, despite playing lower-ranked opponents, has dropped two sets on his way to the title clash.

The Spaniard, who is contesting his 99th career final, made light work of Illya Marchenko in the semi-finals, winning 6-3, 6-4, while the Serbian had to dig in to overcome world number 6 Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-6 (3) to make it to the finals. Djokovic is aiming for his 60th ATP title when he takes on his long-time rival on Saturday.

Nadal, who is coming off a tough 2015 season, struggled with form and fitness during the entire year. He played 23 tournaments in 2015 but managed just three titles, failing to win a single Grand Slam or a Masters 1000 event. Djokovic, on the other hand, had one of his most successful seasons to date, making the finals of all four Grand Slams. However, he managed to win only three of them after losing out to Stan Wawrinka in the finals of the French Open at Roland Garros.
