Laurent Blanc's side came away with all three points from Allianz Riviera, courtesy an own goal by Thimothee Kolodzieczak early in the second half.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions currently sit on top of the league table with 76 points from 31 matches, 13 points clear of second placed Monaco. The French capital outfit overcame Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the previous round of the Champions League with an aggregate score of 6-1.

Meanwhile, Chelsea suffered a dent in the race for the Premier League title after being handed a shock 1-0 defeat by Crystal Palace in their previous Premier League fixture last Saturday. Chelsea were leapfrogged by Liverpool as the league leaders after the Reds' 4-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The west London club currently have two points less than the leaders and sit second having amassed 69 points from 32 matches.

What Managers Say

Laurent Blanc: "In European competition we are among the least experienced clubs remaining. We will need time to be a regular player at the top level. Games like these are very important steps along the way to getting there. Chelsea and Paris have very different styles of play – they're more inclined to counterattack while we like to keep possession. Which is more effective? We'll see after the two legs, but we'll stay true to our beliefs."

Jose Mourinho: "I have watched many Paris matches and I think Laurent has a clear philosophy. The way they play is the way they play. They have an idea and they go with their idea. We are the same. We are going to play the way we are training and playing and we also believe in what we do."
