Archaeologists discover 18th century dildo in Poland Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments

A "large, thick" dildo dating to the 18th century has been discovered in a latrine by archaeologists in Poland.

The sex toy was "preserved in excellent condition" and researchers say it dates from the second half of the 1700s.

The Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments in Gdansk released two pictures showing the object, found in Podwalu.

It was uncovered during an archaeological dig and experts believe it probably fell into the toilet while being used.

A translation of a statement made by authorities said: "It is rather large, thick, made of leather filled with bristles, and has a wooden tip.

"Preserved in excellent condition. It dates from the second half of the 18th century. It was found in the latrine, during archaeological work on suburban Podwalu in Gdansk ... the person using it [probably] fell."

The 250-year-old sex toy has now been taken away for "maintenance".

Dildos have been found in some form throughout history, with Upper Palaeolithic artefacts previously discovered being said to be likely used for sexual pleasure.
