It was a nightmare week for the Liberal Democrats as they plunged into a bitter civil war over alleged sex pest Lord Rennard and saw their election hopes hammered.

Ed Miliband attempted to show Labour was the real party of competition with an attack on the banks, while his shadow minister Rachel Reeves and the Tories' Iain Duncan Smith tried to out do each other on who was the toughest on welfare.
