Disgraced TV star Rolf Harris has been stripped of his national honours by Australia.

Two honours bestowed upon Harris by his native country have been terminated as a result of his convictions for sexually abusing children.

Australia's governor general heaped the humiliation upon Harris. "It is notified that the Governor-General has terminated the appointments of Officer and Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division made to Mr Rolf Harris," a statement said.

Harris used to be household favourite in Britain and Australia, until he was exposed as a predatory paedophile who preyed upon his own daughter's best friend.

Harris, 84, was found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault against four women aged between seven or eight and 19 at the time the offences took place between 1968 and 1986. Harris was been sentenced to five years nine months for the crimes.

Today his reputation lies in ruins and he has endured a turbulent spell in prison. It was reported Harris was attack by a fellow inmate and also had his drawing equipment confiscated from him by prison chiefs.
