A man has been arrested following an aggravated burglary that left an elderly couple fighting for their lives in Scunthorpe.

The 36-year-old man was arrested at a property in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, this morning and is now in police custody.

Humberside Police were called yesterday evening (23 December) following reports of a man fleeing a property in Elm Grove.

Police found two pensioners with serious throat and head injuries. Both victims are now in a stable condition in hospital.

A police spokesman said: "The 90-year-old man, who sustained injuries to his throat is at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby whilst his wife, aged in her late 80s, is at Scunthorpe General Hospital with head injuries."
