Spanish police have arrested an 83-year-old woman on suspicion of murder, claiming that she beat her husband, also 83, to death with a crutch. The crutch was discovered at their house in Malaga, where the murder allegedly took place.

The woman, who has not been named, is said to have beaten the man repeatedly around the head with the walking aid, according to reports by sevilla.abc.es. She phoned for an ambulance herself, telling emergency services on 21 July that her husband had fallen from the sofa.

The man was taken to hospital, where he died the following day.

Tests carried out on the improvised murder weapon found traces of blood that had been repeatedly washed off.

The woman was arrested on 29 July and is due to appear before a court in Malaga.
