Overview

Spain who finished second in Group A, have played some impressive hockey registering three wins while only losing one game in their five fixtures. While not the most attractive sides to watch, the Spaniards know what is needed to win games and stick to their plan.

That the Iberians have scored only 13 goals while conceding six shows just how much they work as a unit on the field. They come into this clash on back of a 1-1 draw with Great Britain and will know that come 14 August, they will need to defend better and not let in easy goals.

The Spaniards who won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Games, would ideally like a repeat at Rio 2016, but despite the improvements made on the pitch they are not the favourites heading into the tie.

The only South American side left in the tournament, Argentina reached the quarter-final stage after winning two and drawing two games out the five played. Argentina who started the tournament well only to fizzle out in the later stages, come into this clash full of confidence after beating Ireland 3-2 in their last game.

Gonzalo Peillat who scored two goals against the Irish on 12 August has looked dangerous and has been in terrific form throughout the tournament. Matias Paredas is another player who has starred for them and if the above duo can play to their strengths, the Argentinians stand a chance of progressing to their first ever Olympic semi-final.
