Overview

After suffering a series whitewash away from home against India, Sri Lanka will take England's tour as an opportunity to get a confidence boost by registering a series win.

The Lankans suffered a 5-0 series defeat at the hands of India earlier this month. The World Champions were led by Virat Kohli in the absence of MS Dhoni. After the embarrassing loss, Sri Lanka made several changes to their ODI squad for the England series.

Meanwhile, England will be hoping to use the ODI series and prepare themselves for the 2015 ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Three Lions were left short of preparations for the ODI series in Sri Lanka as their second warm-up match was called off due to bad weather even without a bowl being bowled.

A victory for Sri Lanka on Wednesday will help them regain their confidence after their back-to-back defeats against India. However, on the downside, if they fail to win, the pressure will be on Angelo Mathews and his men for the remaining ODIs.
