St Kitts and New Patriots were involved in a thriller in their first game of the tournament, with Faf du Plessis's men losing to Guyana Amazon Warriors off the penultimate ball of the match.
Despite a stuttering start, Patriots managed to put on 164 on the board thanks to contributions from Brad Hodge, Devon Thomas and skipper du Plessis. That was not enough though with the bowlers and Thisara Perera in particular struggling to get his lines right.
What the team needed was discipline from the entire bowling unit with only Tabraiz Shamsi and to an extent Krishmar Santokie providing it. The New Patriots outfit will need their big guns to fire as they look a little light in personnel when compared to the other teams.
The winners of the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Premier League, the Jamaica Tallawahs have in their ranks probably the most destructive player in the world in Chris Gayle.
With players such as Kumar Sangakkara, Shakib Al Hasan, Andre Russell and Dale Steyn providing him support, they come into this clash as the favourites. What might just hurt them is that the local players are untested and if the big players fail they might just lose the plot.
