A 16-year-old boy is in a critical condition after he and another teenager were stabbed by attackers riding on mopeds. Both boys suffered knife wounds to their torsos during the attack in Mountearl Gardens in Streatham, south London, on Wednesday, 30 December

Police believe the boys were approached by the attackers riding on two mopeds, each with a rider and passenger.

"The pillion passengers then attacked the victims before fleeing on the waiting mopeds, heading in the direction of Mount Nod Road," Scotland Yard said. "Neither of the pillion passengers is believed to have worn a helmet."

Both police and the London Ambulance Service were called at around 5.30pm following the attack. The second victim, 17, was treated for his injuries and later discharged from hospital Sky News reports.

Det Ch Insp Jim Redmond said: "This was a vicious and violent attack which has left a teenage boy in a critical condition. The incident happened late in the afternoon and there would have been a number of people in and around the area who may have witnessed the events in the lead up to the attack, the stabbings themselves or the moped riders with their pillion passengers fleeing the scene."

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and contact Lambeth CID on 101.
