An American tourist has died after being attacked by a tiger shark off the coast of Costa Rica on 30 November.

The women, who has not yet been named, was diving with a group of tourists more than 300 miles off the coast. She was attacked when the diving group resurfaced.

The 49-year-old was rescued by paramedics and received treatment for the shark bites. But their efforts proved unsuccessful and she later died.

The group's tour leader and diving expert was also attacked. He is in a serious but stable condition.
