Roma have completed the signing of defender Federico Fazio on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. The 29-year-old has joined the Serie A club on a temporary basis for a fee of €1.2m (£1m, $1.3m), while Roma also have an option to buy the player, depending "on the completion of certain sporting targets".

Indeed, Roma have revealed they can sign the Argentine on a permanent deal for just €3.2m. "I am very happy to join a great team like Roma," the on-loan Tottenham player told Roma's official website. "I really want to start training and get to know my new teammates and coach."

The centre-back spent the second half of the 2015-16 season on loan at one of his former clubs, Sevilla. Fazio joined the Spanish team in 2007 from Ferro Carril Oeste, making 192 appearances before joining Tottenham in 2014.

However, he endured an unhappy time with the North London club and was loaned back to Sevilla by Tottenham in January. He subsequently went on to win another Europa League winners' medal at the end of last season, as his side defeated Tottenham's Premier League rivals Liverpool in the final.
