Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on completing a move to sign Brazil forward Alexandre Pato. He is on loan at Sao Paulo from the Corinthians until this December as his contract with his primary club runs out in 2016.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form this season for Sao Paulo, scoring 21 goals in all competitions, which include eight goals in Brazil's top tier championship. His form has seen him attract interest from clubs in England.

According to Brazilian publication Globoesporte, entrepreneur Giuliano Bertolucci has flown to London to complete the deal with Mauricio Pochettino's side before the end of the transfer window on 1 September.

Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade is already looking to offload the forward in the ongoing transfer window.

"Everyone knows that the Corinthians, pretend, want and pray day and night to sell Pato. Next year he has to perform and respect what he agreed to. The choices are his, not mine," De Andrade told ESPN Brazil.

"It is in the realm of speculation right now, but there is something in the works and I am optimistic that it will take place."

Pato's agent Gilmar Veloz has also admitted the Corinthians are looking to do business and has refused to rule out a move to White Hart Lane.

"We have 72 hours to set something up, we'll see. Something really has, I'm waiting. The Corinthians are trading. Let's hope, there's nothing set," Veloz is quoted as saying by Globoesporte.

The north London club completed a deal to sign Heung-Min Son from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal on 28 August. Pochettino is still looking to bolster his attacking options and Pato has emerged as a surprise target.

The Telegraph claims Manchester United are also interested in signing the former AC Milan forward. Louis van Gaal's side need to bolster their strike force and reportedly identified Pato as the player.

Pato's potential move to Tottenham will be a blow to United, who will see another player linked with a move to Old Trafford join their league rivals. This could force the Dutchman to look elsewhere in the final days of the summer transfer window.
