Champions League Group B

Inter Milan Coach Gian Piero Gasperini has demanded an immediate response from his players when they begin their Champions League group campaign against Trabzonspor at the San Siro Wednesday.

Gasperini was left bitterly disappointed with his side's 4-3 defeat at Palermo in Sunday's Serie A opener.

"It's obvious that after our performance at Palermo, we need to correct certain things," Gasperini said. "We lacked balance and we made huge mistakes against them. We will try to make sure we don't repeat those mistakes on Wednesday." Inter have won just one of their last five opening games in the Champions League and Gasperini hopes to change that trend," he said.

"There's only one acceptable result for us against Trabzonspor," Gasperini said. "We will try to get a win while also producing a good performance in front of our home fans." Gasperini has warned his players not to underestimate tournament debutants Trabzonspor who finished runners-up in last season's Turkish league," he continued after the shock 4-3 defeat.

Inter Milan have never played Trabzonspor in the Champions League but met the Turkish side in the 1984 UEFA Cup first round, winning 2-1 on aggregate. In another twist, Trabzonspor manager Senol Gunes, who will serve his first of a two-match touchline ban on Wednesday night, was the goalkeeper in both legs in that UEFA Cup tie.

Inter Milan have an impressive record against Turkish teams playing eight games, winning five, drawing two and only tasting defat once. The Italian giants have never been defeated by Turkish opposition at the San Siro and will be confident of claiming all three points this evening.

The hosts will be without Cristian Chivu, Ivan Cordoba, Maicon, Thiago Motta and Emiliano Viviano, all side-lined through injury.

Wesley Sneijder is expected to return to the starting 11 after being placed on the bench for the defeat to Palermo. Diego Milito, who scored two goals in the defeat, is expected to lead the line with the talented Dutchman playing in support.
