A US Air Force Airman has been found dead at an address in Norfolk close to an RAF base.

The officer, who has not been identified but confirmed to be from the 48th Fighter Wing, was found in off-base housing near to RAF Lakenheath, Mundford, at around 9.40am on 16 September.

The area has been cordoned off while police investigate the incident. The man's death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

A Norfolk Police spokesperson said: "Police are currently investigating a sudden death in Mundford.

"Officers were called at approximately 9.40am this morning (Friday 16 September 2016) after reports the body of a man had been found at a property in the village.

"A seal remains in place at the address while officers continue with their enquiries. The death is being treated as unexplained, however at this stage indications are that it is not believed to be suspicious.

"No further details regarding the deceased will be issued at this time."

RAF Lakenheath serves as one of the two main US Air Force bases in UK. "A spokesperson for the abuse said: A US Air Force Airman from the 48th Fighter Wing was found dead in off-base housing near Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, 16 September.

"The cause of death is currently under investigation. Further information will be released after family notifications have been completed."
