It was a horrific car crash which killed four generations of one American family in one fell swoop. And now the father has expressed his total and utter shock as losing his loved ones.

Seven members of the Ramon family - including two little girls 3-year-old Marly and 7-year-old Niely- died as the car they were travelling in plunged off the Bronx River Parkway. Maria Ramon was driving her family to a party but for some reason - and on a notorious stretch of road. The car lost control, careered across four lanes of the highway, flipped over a crash barrier and plunged more than 50 feet off into a ravine. Juan Ramon is said to be the father of 2 of the children.

Family members are now calling for increased safety measures along this same stretch of highway. It's the second accident in 10 months. Last June 2 people were injured last June as their car lost control and dropped 20 feet into a car park.

Juan Gonzalez also lost members of his family in the crash too.

There's still no word on the exact cause of the crash and police haven't released details of how fast the car was travelling but there will be an investigation into the height of the crash barrier
