A few lucky stargazers got to see a rare sight on 6 March: the Aurora Borealis graced the skies over the United Kingdom. Peter Irvine created a time-lapse showing the lights show over the Kinbane Castle in County Antrim in Northern Ireland.

His video and still photographs show the night sky lit up in a variety of brilliant shades of green and red. Irvine said that 'watching the northern lights 'dance in the sky' was well worth the effort of staying up and seeing them.

Irvine uploaded his time-lapse and still photographs onto social media under the pseudonym irishmanlost, and dubbed his time-lapse Mother's Day from Mother Nature. He added that although he loved the lights, his main interest was "dereliction" and the "lives we leave behind".
