West Ham striker Diafro Sakho was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend Mya three days before he featured in his side's shock defeat of Arsenal in their opening Premier League match on 9 August. Officers from the Metropolitan Police arrested the Senegalese international at his home in Hornchurch, Essex, and took him to a police station at Tower Hamlets, East London, for questioning. He was bailed until September.

Sakho, 25, a £3.5m signing from French side Metz, was West Ham's top goal scorer last season and played 90 minutes as Slaven Bilic's side pulled off a shock win against Arsenal on Saturday (9 August). A Met statement said: "Officers from Tower Hamlets arrested a a 25-year-old man on suspicion of domestic assault."
