From turducken and cronut to pizzabons and ramen burgers, the internet is certainly no stranger to weird food combinations. Now, a hipster cafe in Australia has triggered a new food trend that has sent social media spiralling - lattes served in avocado skins aka 'Avolattes'.

Truman Cafe in Albert Park, Melbourne, posted a video of the weird new combination on Instagram showing creamy coffee being poured into a scooped-out avocado skin. The caption reads: "Combining two of Melbourne's obsessions - lattes and avo."

A barista at the cafe told Newscorp that the trend initially started out as a joke.

"We weren't actually selling them but then someone came in today and wanted one," barista Jaydin Nathan said. "I think it's ridiculous. It's literally coffee in a piece of rubbish."

The joke, however, has since gone viral and sparked a fierce debate on social media over the new hybrid, millennial-targeted coffee creation. While some heralded it as the "best thing ever" and said a "trip to Melbourne is in order", others described it as "gross", "next level hipster" and a sign of "the end of times".

"We have to stop these fads for the sake of humanity", one Twitter user wrote. "I will die before I consume an avolatte," wrote another.

"Some people just wanna watch the world burn," one person tweeted.
