Akon has been hit with a lawsuit after his attempt to develop a social media website went belly up.

R&B star Akon is being sued for $127,875 (£80,000) by a website company which claims he failed to pay for a failed social media site.

Atlanta Business Video said that the Smack That hitmaker hired internet experts from the company in 2011 to help him develop footage for Fantrace, a Facebook-style forum.

However, when the site, which was designed to allow fans to interact with celebrities, failed to take off Akin's experts at the firm allege they were not paid for their work.

According to TMZ.com, executives have filed a lawsuit in Georgia, claiming they are owed for 1,023 hours of work completed on the internet video project.
