Hacking collective Anonymous has threatened to launch a new cyber-attack on the Bahraini government by taking offline the websites relating to the upcoming Formula 1 Grand Prix in the country.

In a statement, the hacktivists pledged to Bahrain's royal family to wreck your little party against Mr Ecclestone, the president and CEO of Formula One, saying that they will not stand by and allow you a race fuelled by the blood of our freedom-loving comrades in Bahrain.

Almost daily demonstrations have taken place in Bahrain since the end of martial law in June 2011, with the Shi'ite majority complaining of discrimination and lack of freedoms from the country's Sunni ruling family.
