Former Top of the Pops DJ Dave Lee Travis has been arrested in part of the current police probe into the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.

The 67 year old from Bedfordshire has been held on suspicion of sexual offences as part of a met investigation, named Operation Yewtree, into the paedophile allegations labelled against the late presenter Jimmy Savile.

Around 250 claims relating to the scandal are currently under investigation with up to 450 potential victims approaching police.

Three branches of enquiries are being pursued: claims against Savile, claims against Savile and others, and claims against others. Police have said the latest arrest falls underneath 'others', meaning that its unrelated to Savile.

The DJ was best known for his 25 years presenting on Radio 1. Nicknamed the Hairy Cornflake, Travis becomes the fourth person to be arrested in the investigation, following former BBC producer Wilfred De'ath, pop star Gary Glitter and comedian Freddie Starr. The three were all subsequently released on bail.
