Android 4.2.1 CM10.1 ROM available for HTC Desier S. Phonegg

A CyanogenMod 10.1 (CM10.1) test build, featuring Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean) has been released for the HTC Desire S, by XDA developer Flinny. This guide will help install the firmware on the device. However, IBTimes UK reminds its readers it will not be held responsible for any damage to the device during the process. This file and guide are meant only for the HTC Desire S and users are warned bugs are likely, since the ROM is in its development stage.

Pre-Requisites

  • Ensure appropriate USB drivers are downloaded and USB debugging mode enabled
  • Ensure bootloader is unlocked (click here for help)
  • Ensure device is rooted and ClockWorkMod (CWM) Recovery is installed
  • Ensure all data is backed-up
  • Ensure battery has at least 80 percent charge

To Install CM10.1 Android 4.2.1 ROM on HTC Desire S

  • Download Android 4.2.1 CM10.1 (Jelly Bean) ROM to computer
  • Download Google apps package
  • Connect device to computer with USB cable and copy downloaded files to SD card, without extracting
  • Disconnect device and switch it off
  • Re-start in HBOOT mode (to do so, press Volume Down and Power until HBOOT menu appears and then use Volume keys to navigate to Recovery and Power to select the option(if that doesn't work, try this alternate method)
  • In Recovery perform a Nandroid backup of existing ROM (to do so, select Backup and Restore > Backup and return to main Recovery menu after completion)
  • Next perform a full data wipe by selecting Wipe Data / Factory Reset > Yes and return to main Recovery menu after completion
  • Use Power to select Install Zip from SD Card and select Choose Zip from SD Card. Now, locate ROM, select and confirm installation
  • After installation, repeat above selection step to install Google apps package
  • After installation, return to main Recovery menu and select Reboot System Now (first boot may take some time)
    • Note: To return to previous ROM, boot into Recovery, select Backup and Restore > Restore and select ROM from list

The CM10.1 custom firmware, based on Android 4.2.1, is now installed and running on the HTC Desire S. Browse to Settings > About Phone to verify software version.
