What New England Patriots' Drake Maye Already Achieved That Tom Brady Couldn't Ahead of Super Bowl LX
Drake Maye set to become the second-youngest player in NFL history to start in the Super Bowl

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is set to make history in the NFL at Super Bowl LX. However, even ahead of the upcoming sporting event, Maye has already achieved something that his predecessor, Tom Brady, was unable to accomplish on game day.
Maye will be making history not only within his team, but across the NFL when he takes the field on 8 February at the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots' quarterback will become the second-youngest starting player in NFL Super Bowl history at 23 years and 162 days old. With Maye starting for the Patriots in this Super Bowl, the event will prove significant regardless of who emerges victorious.

Who is the Youngest Quarterback to Start the Super Bowl?
With Maye becoming the second-youngest starting quarterback in Super Bowl and NFL history, this places him behind Dan Marino, who played for the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX. At the time, Marino was 23 years and 127 days old. Despite the Dolphins ultimately losing, Marino has held the age record for 40 years.
Following Maye is Ben Roethlisberger at 23 years and 340 days, Brock Purdy at 24 years and 46 days, David Woodley at 24 years and 97 days, Jared Goff at 24 years and 112 days, Patrick Mahomes at 24 years and 138 days, Brady at 24 years and 189 days, Jalen Hurts at 24 years and 189 days, and Drew Bledsoe at 24 years and 246 days.

What Maye Can Achieve After the Super Bowl
Maye might have already become the second-youngest starting quarterback, but he has the potential to break Roethlisberger's record, which previously surpassed Brady's, if the Patriots win Super Bowl LX. When Brady secured the first Super Bowl victory for the Patriots, he was the youngest quarterback to win at the time. Roethlisberger later broke that record for the Steelers upon winning the Super Bowl in 2006.
Having been drafted by the Patriots in 2024 from UNC, Maye emerged as a player to watch in his second season with the team. Maye is also in contention for the NFL MVP award this season, having overcome doubts cast upon him.

Peyton Manning Reached Out
Ahead of the event, on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Maye revealed that football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning reached out to him in what represents a full circle moment. Maye recalled attending Super Bowl 50 when Manning and the Denver Broncos faced the Carolina Panthers. Manning was also a former rival of Brady, who finished 2-2 in Super Bowl matches during his time in the league.
'It's really full circle, because I was at this game 10 years ago when Peyton won it against the Panthers,' said Maye. 'I was there, my dad brought me. So, it's a pretty cool moment to kind of get to know some of these guys I looked up to and great players and great throwers of football. It's pretty special that now they're reaching out to me and taking their time out of the day to try and help me try to go win the big one.'
