Chelsea are set to fight Arsenal to sign Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer, with the 23 year old being scouted by both clubs as he goes from strength to strength in Ligue 1.

Aubameyang has been on fire for Saint-Etienne this season, scoring 16 times in 27 appearances for the club, and eight times in his last seven matches.

Arsenal scouts were believed to be keeping a close eye on the Gabon international last week, and now the Daily Mail claim Chelsea are also watching his performances, with the west London club looking to improve their attacking line up over the summer.

While many had hoped that the appointment of Rafa Benitez would spark Fernando Torres' winning form once more, the striker has failed to impress under yet another manager.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is a reported target for Arsenal and Chelsea.

With that in mind, it's likely that the Spaniard will be cut loose this summer, particularly after Demba Ba burst onto the scene in January and showed that for a fraction of the price he could deliver more than Torres on the pitch.

Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are also reportedly watching Aubameyang, who revealed recently that he wants to cut his deal short with Saint Etienne and make a move to a big club this summer if the right offer comes along.

But while Arsenal have often been on the losing end of bidding wars in recent times, the club will likely be pushing particularly hard to prove to fans that they are serious about becoming title contenders once more, and if they qualify for Champions League football they will fight hard for the targets who top Arsene Wenger's transfer wishlist.
