Two years ago, on 16 November, the Clarence House announced the engagement of Prince William to Kate Middleton. The official release saw Kate dressed in a knee-length blue dress, with her hair blow-dried and left loose, holding on to William's arm and showing her engagement ring. The ring was an 18-carat oval sapphire, surrounded by diamonds, which belonged to William's mother, the late Princess Diana.

Today, 16 November, 2012, marks the second anniversary of that proposal. But today the two are William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They were married on 29 April last year, at Westminster Abbey and the royal wedding set a new record for being the most viewed online event in the world; it was watched by 72 million viewers.

William and Kate dated for over nine years, after first meeting at St Andrews University in 2001. The two graduated with honours in 2005 - William in Geography and Kate in History of Art. Following news of their engagement, William and Kate transformed into royal celebrities and began making official visits together. And one of their more recent visits was to St Andrews, where they launched their alma mater's 600th anniversary campaign.
