Tottenham Playmaker Admits To German Interest Over The Summer

Christian Eriksen has revealed that he might have signed for Borussia Dortmund before sealing a move to Tottenham in the last days of the summer transfer window.

Eriksen was one of Europe's most sought-after players in the summer as the Ajax star entered the final year of his contract, but he insisted he would be picky over his next destination after receiving maximum game time with the Dutch giants and winning multiple trophies at the club.

There was talk that Dortmund were keeping a close eye on Eriksen as they searched for a replacement for the outgoing Mario Gotze, but the side denied the reports and ended up signing Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan instead.

This left the Denmark international open to bids right up until the end of the window, and Tottenham were eventually able to seal the deal for the star as they splurged on attacking players to make up for the loss of Gareth Bale.

But now Eriksen says that Dortmund were in fact interested, though he insists he isn't dwelling on the pursuit as he settles into life at White Hart Lane.

"Dortmund was interested, and they approached me," he told Danish paper BT. "I guess that they have contacted all the candidates they had, and I was one of the many.

"They were interested, and there was a phone call from them. But it's a long time ago and a lot has happened since."

Eriksen will face Mkhitaryan this week on international duty, when Denmark take on Armenia in their World Cup qualifying match. And the 21-year-old says he's well aware of what a tough player the Dortmund midfielder can be as Group B continues to be a particularly tight race for play-off qualification.

"Mkhitaryan is a very good player," he said. "But what I have also noticed is that they [Armenia] were really good as a team.

"It was obvious that they knew how to play with each other, and at the same time their individual qualities came out."
