Overview

Pakistan's defence of their Asian Hockey title started on a disastrous note as they were thrashed 4-2 by hosts Malaysia on 20 October (Thursday).

The two-time winners struggled in the absence of the ever-reliable Mohammad Irfan, who stayed back home due to visa problems, and their defence was breached time and again by the hosts.

Aleem Bilal was the only player to show some fight for the Men in Green scoring both their goals but it was not enough as they ultimately lost 4-2.

Their opponents South Korea are a lesser known force on the world stage and have not had the best of times in the past couple of years failing to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as not playing the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, which was held earlier this year.

The lack of experience will be an obstacle for the Koreans who come into this clash as the definite underdogs and are not expected to cause an upset come 21 October.
