The singer Bernie Nolan has died aged 52.

TV star and singer Bernie Nolan has passed away after losing her battle to cancer, it has been announced.

The mum-of-one, who found fame on BBC morning children's show On the Waterfront, had battled illness for several years. She was aged 52.

"Bernie passed away peacefully this morning with all of her family around her," said a spokesperson for her family.

"The entire family are devastated to have lost beloved Bernie, a wonderful wife, adoring mother and loving sister, she is irreplaceable.

"They kindly ask people to respect their privacy at this difficult time."

Nolan, who was declared cancer-free in 2012 after undergoing a mastectomy was diagnosed with the disease for the second time last year.

Doctors said it has returned in an incurable form and had spread to her brain, lungs, liver and bones.

The former Nolan Sisters singer had been being cared for in a hospice before returning to her family for her final days.

She is survived by husband Steve Doneathy and daughter Erin, 14.
