Better Call Saul season 3
Jimmy with his brother Chuck in Better Call Saul season 2 finale AMC

Better Call Saul season 2 finale ended with a big twist involving Chuck and on a cliffhanger for Mike Ehrmantraut. In episode 10 titled, Klick, Jimmy comes clean to Chuck about forging his Mesa Verde documents after the latter decides to quit his job at HHM.

The twist comes at the very end of the episode when we realise Chuck had recorded Jimmy's entire confession. So, Chuck turns his brother in. Could his brother's betrayal turn Jimmy into Saul Goodman? This will be addressed in season 3.

Creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould spoke about Chuck's move and how it will affect Jimmy in season 3. Gilligan said, "This is something we hash out every day in the writers' room, and we're going to find out. Without a doubt, it feels like Chuck is about to make some really big move against Jimmy."

"And I think one of the questions is: Jimmy is the guy who will run to his brother's aid when he needs to. Is that still going to be true after he finds out that he's been played, and he's been had? These brothers have suffered such a rift already — what's the next step? At what point does Jimmy's love, respect, and caring for his brother become permanently broken?" he added.

The final hour also finds contract-killer-in-the-making Mike going into the desert to take down Hector Salamanca but failing to get a clean shot. Mike then hears a loud noise coming from his own car, finds that someone has jammed a tree branch into the horn and left an ominous note on his windshield saying, "Don't". Who wrote the note? Gus Fring?

"I think folks can definitely think about: Who writes a note that says "DON'T"? That's one of the things we talked a lot about. It's a very interesting approach to stopping Mike from shooting Hector. Of course, the fast way to stop Mike would have been to simply kill Mike," Gould said.

When asked if Gus Fring has written that note, Gilligan coyly replied, "Fair assumption. Yeah, I think we have. I think we did last night on Talking Saul. We've got some very [smart fans, who deduced that an anagram of the first letter of this season's episode titles spells "FringsBack"

However, Gould warned that fans shouldn't expect Gus in season 3 right away. He said, "Having said that, I would be very sad if people were expecting to see that character right away on season 3. Right now, this is a guy — I'm talking about Gus Fring — who often works very indirectly. This is not somebody who is not easy to access."

The creator added, "On Breaking Bad at times he was a little bit like the man behind the curtain, like the Wizard of Oz, not so easy to get to see. So, none of this is to say that suddenly you're going to be seeing an awful lot of that character once we come back."

According to a report in Bustle, the show may return with its 3rd season sometime in February 2017. The speculation is based on the fact that the show premieres its first season with back-to-back episodes on 8 and 9 February 2015 and continued its 10-episode run for Mondays. The show's second season premiered on 15 February 2016, which falls on a Monday. Given the data, the show is most certain to premiere in between 6 February 2017 (Monday) or 3 February (Monday) 2017.

However, this is just speculation and AMC is yet to announce the official premiere date for Better Call Saul season 3.
