Mario Balotelli's cooly-slotted last minute penalty saved Manchester City's blushes as they drew 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund in a thrilling champions league match at the Etihad.

Marco Reus got the opener for Dortmund, and the German league champions would have got more if it hadn't of been for some brilliant saves by Joe Hart.

Boss Roberto Mancini bemoaned his side's wastefulness up front.

"I think that the Champions League is totally different from every championship, and when you play against the best players and when you have a chance you need to score. If you don't score and after you concede like we conceded this evening, it's difficult that we can win. In the first half we had three or four incredible chances and I don't know why we didn't score, but this can happen. The problem was our performance, this is the problem."

Goals from Gervinho, Lukas Podolski and Aaron Ramsey fired Arsenal to a 3-1 win over Olympiakos as the Gunners took charge of the tie after a sluggish first half performance.

Arsenal assistant manager Steve Bould was relieved that the Gunners managed to prevail in the tie.

"We won the game, it's a great result for us, they made it tough. I thought they were very good, their organisation was excellent and they made it tough for us.

"I think we improved second half with the ball but we looked a little nervy I have to say at times but over all we're delighted."

Attentions now turn to the three English sides in the Europa League tonight, as Tottenham play Panathinaikos, Liverpool face Udinese and Newcastle take on Bordeaux.
