Chelsea crashed out of the Carling Cup after a 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

It's a result which heaps pressure on Villas-Boas, following the Blues' dismal run of form, especially at home.

Liverpool could have added further gloss to the final scoreline had Andy Carroll converted his first half penalty. The first half ended goalless and Chelsea threatened in the second, but it was Liverpool who scored.

Chelsea struck the bar, in a goal-mouth melee but shortly thereafter, the game's first goal came at the other end. Jordan Henderson found Craig Bellamy who passed across for Maxi to tap in.

The Welshman set up the second as well, minutes later, whipping in a free kick for Martin Kelly to nod in.

Chelsea now go into a crucial run of games which could define their season, starting with a trip to Newcastle, at the weekend, before a crunch Champions League encounter against Valencia.
