Fast and Furious 7
After the super success of Furious 7, will Universal confirm part 8? Universal Pictures

After several hints and teases from the Furious 7 cast and crew members on the fate of Fast and Furious 8, fans are now looking forward to an official announcement from Universal.

And it is being speculated that some concrete information about the next film might just be revealed within the next few days, during CinemaCon 2015, which kicks off today, 20 April, in Las Vegas, US.

"Universal's first move will be to plant a flag on a release date, which could come as early as the CinemaCon convention in late April," states The Hollywood Reporter.

While it does seem unlikely that the makers will switch into work mode so soon, even as Furious 7 continues to set the cash registers ringing, die-hard fans of the franchise would remember that the first footage from Fast and Furious 7 was unveiled at CinemaCon 2014. Maybe, that's why fans are hoping for a big revelation this year as well.

Meanwhile, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Vin Diesel teased that an eighth instalment will be set in New York. And Kurt Russell, who joined the cast in Furious 7, will apparently have a significant role in the next one.

"Kurt Russell came in for this movie," Diesel told Kimmel in March. "But we really hired him because of a story that follows this, that takes place in New York."

Rumours also suggest that actress Eva Mendes, who featured in 2 Fast 2 Furious, might return to the franchise in the eighth instalment.
