Five, terrestrial TV channel has signed a number of US television deals including hit police/CBI series, 'The Mentalist' starring Simon Baker and Tim Kang who starred in the 2008 remake of Sylvester Stallone's Rambo.

The deal also includes 300, 10,000BC and Beowulf for the UK as Five seeks to take-on Sky's stranglehold on pay movie TV.

So far, Five has successfully screened a number of hit Warner Bros. movies in the UK including cult series, "The Matrix" and still owns the rights to screening it, alongside "The Last Samurai" and "Perfect Storm".

The news follows former AOL owner, Time Warner buying into UK programme maker, Shed Media which produces "Supernanny".

The deal values the company at £99.9m.
