Game of Thrones Season 5
Game of Thrones season 5 premieres on 12 April Facebook/HBO

Update: Watch the leaked full-length trailer of Game of Thrones season 5 below:

Looks like the Game of Thrones season 5 first trailer is going to be a lot edgier than previous seasons'.

It was earlier reported that the final two episodes of Game of Thrones season 4 will be shown in IMAX theatres where the first full-length trailer of the upcoming season will also be unveiled. Because the episodes will be shown in theatres, the MPAA has to rate them, and they were given an R rating. Apparently, the same rule applies to the season 5 trailer, as well. (via WinterisComing)

As per an Air Herald report, the Game of Thrones season 5 trailer has been officially given an R rating by the MPAA.

"The Game of Thrones season 5 trailer has been officially rated R by the MPAA. That's because it will be shown with the final two episodes of Game of Thrones Season 4, which are airing in IMAX theatres later this month. It's the first time that a TV series has been shown in IMAX, but because it will be aired in a movie theatre, it has to be rated by the MPAA."

The report also explains why the MPAA gave the trailer an R-rating.

"The MPAA gave the Game of Thrones season 5 trailer an R-rating for sequences of brutal violence and language including sexual references."

The Game of Thrones IMAX Experience will begin on Thursday, 29 January and will run to Thursday, 5 February.

The new trailer should be up online on the same date (29 January). You can click here, here or here to watch it.

Meanwhile, a new leaked image of season 5 teases that Tyrion Lannister could be in mortal danger when he enters Daznak's Pit with Daenerys Targaryen in Meereen.

According to GoT fansite Winter Is Coming, a leaked production photo shows Daenerys, Missandei, Jorah, Tyrion, and Daario in Daznak's Pit with the bodies of injured/deceased citizens all around them. Check out the image below:
