Kanye West is famed for his overblown romantic gestures, but even he has surpassed himself with his latest plans to declare his love for his wife.

After proposing to Kim Kardashian in a baseball stadium with a 50 piece orchestra, and making his wedding vows in front of a wall of flowers in Florence, the Yeezus singer plans to make a grand declaration of love that is set in stone.

According to The National Enquirer, the rapper will follow in the example of Mogul emperor Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal as a monument of love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal.

West, who is apparently taken with the architecture of Europe, is planning to build a cathedral modelled on Barcelona's famed La Sagrada Familia as a token of his enduring love for the reality TV star.

A source told the U.S. publication: "Kanye has visited the church several times, and it takes his breath away every time. He's always wanted something similar for his own family.

"They want somewhere that weddings, baptisms and family funerals can take place for years to come. But Kanye being Kanye, it's going to be ludicrously over the top!"

The cathedral will reportedly also serve as an homage to West, who has previously compared himself to a modern day idol, with the track I Am God.

The place of worship will include a stained glass window featuring himself, his wife and their one-year-old daughter North.

"Kanye sees it as a monument to him and Kim, that will become a major landmark. He says everyone will want to see it, like the Hollywood sign or the Empire State Building," revealed the source.

The proposed church will also include a tribute to the singer's late mother Donda who was "deeply religious."

The 37-year-old star has apparently set aside $5 million for the project and intends to "start an online appeal so fans can donate to the fund."

The couple tied the knot on May 24th, 2014, in Florence Italy, in front of 200 of their closest friends and family at the romantic hilltop location of Fort di Belvedere.
