Chelsea's Marginalised Midfielder Offered Bundesliga Exit Route

Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg have confirmed their interest in signing Chelsea's ostracised midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgian international made a bright start to life at Stamford Bridge as he starred in his first two appearances for the club but has since fallen out of favour with Blues manager Jose Mourinho who has been unimpressed with his efforts in training.

Since being dropped, De Bruyne has started just one game since August, featuring in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Swindon Town in the Capital One Cup.

Although the player's agent has maintained the midfielder is willing to remain in west London, the Belgian has no shortage of offers from Germany where he enthralled on for Werder Bremen on loan last season.

"We as a club have given our signal of interest in the services of Kevin De Bruyne," Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs told Sky Deutschland.

"This was done over the summer when it became obvious that he would be returning to Chelsea.

"Kevin De Bruyne is no first team regular at this point in time. We will definitely consider what is going on with him."

After being unimpressed with the former Genk starlet's exertions in training, Mourinho opted to send De Bruyne to train with the club's development squad, further fuelling speculation that he will seek a move away from the club.

Werder Bremen have already informed the Premier League club that they would be happy to take the midfielder back on loan, where he scored 10 goals and laid on 10 assists last season.

He was also linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen as part of the deal which saw Andre Schurrle move to Stamford Bridge, but remained in London following claims from Mourinho that both De Bruyne and his compatriot Romelu Lukaku were part of his first team plans.

After the striker was allowed to join Everton on loan, De Bruyne's first team opportunities have dwindled since the closure of transfer window, leaving his future at the club in doubt.

De Bruyne is currently with the Belgian national side preparing for final World Cup qualifying games against Croatia and Wales.

Reports earlier in the week suggested the Chelsea midfielder has suffered a serious ankle injury during a training session and had to be rushed to hospital, claims which were later denied by De Bruyne himself through his Twitter account.

Belgium need to collect just a single point from their two games to seal qualification for the World Cup in Brazil next summer.
