Benfica's star Nicolas Gaitan has long since been linked to English giants Manchester United, especially after the Champions League group stage games between the two sides.

It now seems as if the potential move has gained momentum with the player's agent admitting that the two clubs have spoken of a possible deal.

"I have not received any contact from United but there have been conversations between the two clubs,' Gaitan's agent Jose Irribaran told Antena. "If these talks progress, then we will get our time to speak.

"But Nico is very happy at Benfica and is looking forward to enjoying a successful season.'

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants to add creativity to a fairly industrious midfield and the 23-year-old's trickery and play-making skills has seen him top the list of those rumoured to be considering a move to Old Trafford.

Gaitan will cost United around £25million but it seems a fair price for a skilful player, especially with injuries to Anderson, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley.
