Peaches Geldof was warned by doctors to ditch her junk food diet which was putting her life at risk – adding she had a 'heart of a 90-year-old gangster'.

The 25-year-old previously laughed off claims she was anorexic and had said her dramatic weight loss was down to doctors telling her to give up eating McDonald's, pizza and chips every day.

The cause of her sudden death at her Wrotham home in Kent has proved 'inconclusive' following a post-mortem examination, but further toxicology tests are still due to be carried out in the next few weeks.

She appeared very thin in the weeks before her death and in the past had talked about being able to lose 10Ib in a month on juice diets – leading to speculation that rapid dieting could have triggered a heart problem.

"I had cholesterol and the doctors said stop eating s***. So I did. If you stop eating pizza and chips you then don't look like you used to. "Do I really look that thin? Let's be honest. How did I do it? I just stopped eating McDonald's and f****** s*** every day," she said at a 2011 film premiere.

"I used to eat s*** every single day. I used to wake up with my boyfriend and eat crap. I had the heart of a 90-year-old gangster."

Close family friend Gerry Agar said: "I was worried about her weight loss. You could see that she was struggling with self-esteem issues – just as Paula did.'

He said her father Sir Bob Geldof had concerns she was bulimic, adding: "I remember Bob once told me that he used to help her to take care of her teeth because all of the vomiting made them really bad. Peaches lost such a lot of weight and then talked in interviews about going on juice-only diets."

Her friend Jonny Makeup claimed she struggled to keep off drugs after battling addiction when she was younger.

"Being a recovering addict myself, I know she struggled to be and stay clean – like all of us with addictions do. I don't know if this had anything to do with her death. But I just hope she was at peace."

Police say no drugs or suicide notes have been found at her home.

A spokesman said: "Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death in order to compile a report for the coroner."
