As Queen Elizabeth II celebrated another year, scores of celebrities flocked online to join the Twitter party that was being held in the record-breaking monarch's honour.

Birthday messages came from across the globe and it didn't take long for the hashtag #HappyBirthdayYourMajesty to start trending worldwide. Supermodel Cara Delevingne, comedian David Walliams and Great British Bake Off champ Nadiya Hussain joining in the festivities. The Queen's good friend and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed posted a snap of the pair on Twitter. In the accompanying caption he described her as "remarkable", adding that he "greatly admires" her.

And it didn't stop there.

Born on 21 April 1926 during the reign of her grandfather, King George V, she recently became Britain's longest-reigning monarch after 63 years on the throne.

On Thursday a historic image of England's Queen with her five great-grandchildren and two youngest grandchildren was unveiled. The iconic photograph was captured by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz and shows Her Royal Highness posing with James, Lady Louise, Mia Tindall, Savannah, Isla Phillips, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
