It was another clash of the titans. In a virtual revenge of sorts, Liverpool earned a priceless 1-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday night in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg clash at the Etihad Stadium. The Reds thereby redeemed themselves from the humiliating 3-0 Premier League defeat at the hands of City in the same venue last week.

The lone goal came from Steven Gerrard's penalty shot just 13 minutes into the game. He converted from the spot where Daniel Agger was crudely brought down by Stefan Savic in the box. The Reds then managed to hold on to their lead to claim victory over an unsettled City who were reeling under multiple problems including the absence of the likes of Kolo Touré and Vincent Kompany.
