Scandal season 5
Fitz and Olivia deal with the aftermath of her confession that she is the US president's mistress ABC

Scandal Season 5 delivered a shocking episode last week in which Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) dropped a bombshell, telling the press she is President Fitzgerald "Fitz" Thomas Grant III's mistress. However, she will now have to deal with the aftermath her revelation and leaks of sex pictures.

The upcoming episodes are expected to focus on the repercussions of the disclosure on the couple's relationship and how Mellie deals with the situation. As shown in the promo, Fitz and his wife release a joint press statement rubbishing rumours of trouble in their marriage.

"What's so amazing about this season is... we're getting to see what it means for Liv and Fitz to be together. It's rough... It's gonna be brutal. And Washington's character said 'yes', so I'm happy about that," Tony Goldwyn, who directed episode 2, told ABC News.

In that episode, Rowan Pope's daughter answers "yes" to a reporter's question: "Are you the president's mistress?"

Mellie, on the other hand, is planning to stay in the game. For that she will bring back her "old friend" who may be Cyrus. She may not let the divorce game harm her ambitions and is planning a counter-attack on Olitz.

The official synopsis of episode 3 Paris is Burning reads: Olivia and Fitz face some very big consequences and Mellie brings in an old friend to make sure she gets her way. Meanwhile, Abby shows Olivia she is fully capable of handling work at the White House.
