Grammy Award-winning R&B star Miguel was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Los Angeles, it has emerged.

TMZ reports that the Adorn hitmaker spent around 90 minutes in jail after being stopped by police for allegedly speeding through Marina Del Rey in the early hours.

He also attracted suspicion as he was driving a BMW with illegally tinted front windows.

The 27-year-old singer, born Miguel Jontel Pimentel, was taken into custody after failing sobriety tests conducted by a California highway patrol officer.

Investigators say his blood alcohol level measured 0.10%. California's legal limit is 0.08%.

"The officers investigating observed alcohol intoxication and he [Miguel] was arrested on suspicion of DUI," Sergeant Denise Joslin said.

He was later realised on $5,000 bail, according Los Angeles County jail records.

A court date has been scheduled for 9 September. Miguel has yet to release a statement about the incident.
