A man has been arrested on suspicion of looting a flood victim's home in West Yorkshire. Police were called this morning (30 December) to reports of a male in a white van allegedly stealing items from outside a flood damaged property in Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd.

The attending officers located the vehicle nearby and a 40-year-old male from Dewsbury was arrested on suspicion of theft. He is currently in police custody.

Mytholmroyd was one of the villages worst hit by the Christmas and Boxing Day floods after the River Calder burst its banks.

Yesterday, West Yorkshire Police said it would be deploying more officers to help protect property in the community and neighbouring towns, with bikers from nearby motorcycle clubs also helping carry out patrols at night.
