Perrie Edwards has continued to fuel speculation that she is secretly married to former One Direction star Zayn Malik after taking his last name on social media.

The Little Mix singer sent fans into a frenzy when she introduced herself as "Perrie Malik" in a video posted on the girl band's official Instagram account.

In the short clip, Edwards and bandmates Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall put on their best seductive voices. When the camera pans over to Edwards she swaps her surname for that of her fiancé.

The declaration quickly prompted fans to question whether the couple - who have been engaged since August 2013 – have already said "I do". While some reacted with shock and surprise, others accused the 21-year-old of riding on her famous beau's coattails.

"More like 'Perrie I'm-using-my-boyfriend-to-promote-my-band-because-we're-a-big-flop Edwards," one fan wrote.

Another added: "Just saw the 'Perrie Malik' thing and I'm puking omfg."

Edwards' rep has since denied that a wedding had taken place saying: "The three girls in the group with boyfriends say their first name and their boyfriend's last name, and Jade says 'I'm Jade' with no last name because she doesn't have a boyfriend. They were teasing her. Nothing more."

Malik announced he was quitting One Direction on 25 March to be "a normal 22-year-old", days after he was accused of cheating on Edwards with holidaymaker Lauren Rich in Thailand. He refuted the cheating claims and jetted back to London for crisis talks with the blonde beauty.

Following his shock exit, heartbroken Directioners labelled Edwards the "new Yoko Ono" and accused her of persuading him to quit the group. Although Malik rubbished the allegations that he chose Edwards over the band, former bandmate Liam Payne painted a different picture during an interview with Capital FM hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowden.

"Sometimes you have to move on because you're not enjoying what you're doing as much as you used to. He wanted to spend time with his family and his missus. That's cool with us," said Payne.

He has since been spending a lot of time with his partner in recent weeks, even playing the role of supportive boyfriend by accompanying her around the UK as she promotes her band's new single Black Magic.
